The Kelowna Salvation Army will officially open its new community life centre and thrift store in Rutland Saturday.

The event takes place at 11 a.m. at the old Valley Lanes location, 200 Rutland Rd. S., which has been undergoing renovations for the past six months.

“The whole building has been gutted and rebuilt,” said Major Ron Cartmell. “The bowling alley has been converted into our new thrift store and the pub has been converted into our community life centre where we meet one-one with those in need.”

Services offered at the community life centre include counselling, emergency food hampers, pro-bono legal advice, referrals, and help with clothing and furniture to those who qualify for assistance. Plans are also in place to develop a mentoring program and other community support programs.

The old Salvation Army Resource Centre and Harvey Avenue thrift store have been relocated to the Rutland location.
