Two water-carrying aircraft backed ground crews in working to extinguish the Joe Rich fire, east of Kelowna, on Friday. "Five firefighters patrolled overnight (Thursday), and 15 firefighters will mop up hot spots," said fire information officer Kayla Pepper said. A guard built by machines or ground crews now encircles the 10-hectare fire, which is about 18 kilometres northwest of Big White Ski Resort. No structures were threatened by the remote fire, which was started by a lightning strike early Thursday morning.
